Give Tired Whites a New Lease with Avocado Stones!

Don’t discard your tired whites! Instead, save them from the landfill and give them a new, pretty-in-pink lease on life by simply using avocado stones! Yes, you read right! Who knew that this delicious green fruit can produce the most lovely blush pink?

To dye small items such as fabric napkins or an old t-shirt:

  1. Put eight clean avocado stones into a large saucepan along with 2 litres of water.
  2. Bring to the boil, then leave to simmer. The colour should start to change within 30 minutes.
  3. Once your water has turned a deep colour (this can take about 2 hours), turn the heat off.
  4. Remove the avocado stones and residual bits, leaving only the dye behind and add your fabrics.
  5. Leave for several hours, stirring every now and then until you are happy with the colour.
  6. Remove your fabrics with tongs, rinse and leave to dry.

Important Note:

Natural dyeing is not a perfect method and colour outcomes will vary. This process should only be used to experiment with non-sentimental fabric pieces for fun! Remember to wear old clothes when attempting natural dyeing as you may get splattered and end up dying more than you had bargained for!
